Start give Pride of Britain Awards 2005 new shine
Start has created a new identity for the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards 2005, the televised annual awards set up to honour the unsung heroes of the British community. The identity will work as both a statuette and a logo to be used throughout this year and subsequent TV events.
The creative agency was briefed to develop a more iconic identity that had a strong sense of pride and Britishness and centred on "celebrating Britain at its best".
Peter Willis, associate editor of the Daily Mirror who created the event in 1999 and has managed it ever since, said, "We had searched for ideas for a new and recognisable icon for Pride of Britain for some years and Start has come up with exactly the right idea. We are all highly delighted with their work on this project, they’ve done an excellent job."
The design was inspired by a variety of British icons and based on the idea of the "courage of winners" and "people who win through". The result is a sleek silver, angel-like figurine holding up a British flag as though it were its wings. The identity uses a bold, modern slab serif logotype.
James Sterling, senior designer at Start said, "This is a great event set up to celebrate inspiring individuals within the British community and we wanted a solution that demonstrated a sense of pride, unity and achievement."
In its seventh year, the event will be held in Central London on 10 October. It will be broadcast on prime time ITV1 on Tuesday 11 October, presented by Carol Vorderman and Ant and Dec.
