thetrainline ploughs £1m into leisure site
An article in Revolution, the magazine of business and marketing, reports that online train ticketing service thetrainline is launching a travel and leisure site backed by a £1m integrated campaign.

thetrainline Store (www.thetrainlinestore.com) site has been conceived and designed by Start Design. It will let will travellers plan, book and pay for their entire journey - including flights and car hire - on one site.

The site also offers travel tips and destination guides. It is being developed with a CRM system designed to maximise cross-selling revenues.

Mark Furlong, commercial director of thetrainline, said: "The aim was to consolidate all our partnership services on one site. Thetrainline.com will focus on the core of our business - train ticket retailing - while the sister site will offer complementary, relevant services to users' journeys - European holidays by rail, for example."

The article in Revolution goes on to state that about one-third of the £1m marketing budget has been spent on web activity, which will include an email to three million subscribers of thetrainline.com.
